Today if you observe closely the trend of job hopping, the motto is to earn higher perks and fancy designation. Lot of efforts are put around just to compare how your classmate / peer is doing, and always there are people around just to criticize on our stand . Moreover whenever we separate from the organization there is frustration, happiness and excitement varying across the group of people with whom we network. There is some emotional bonding with few people with whom we share our feelings, happiness and sorrow. The seat and the table which were once explicit to me and occupied becomes empty for few hours or days, until someone occupies it. Then the time when the familiar faces just start behaving abnormal, gossips and frustrations. In business, as it is often said, it's not personal, it's just business. This has to be done for the sake of the company or for better prospects. There are situations where in the separation damages the relationship and completely cut ties. There are lousy breakups and there are clean breakups, whether be it in personal or professional life.

I worked in an reputed organization, and my boss was an gentleman and full of humor. We used to commute and have lunch together along with the team. It was one of the biggest dream project of the client, and we were in the business of Project Management for the client. I was new to the construction Industry, however I think I was smart enough to be versed with the fundamentals and establish my credentials and repute . Sometimes I would sympathize and empathize on the labours, who used to just take the orders from the supervisor without answering back. Sometimes even when it is wrong decision the labours were made to listen to the music !

I got any new offer in an MNC near my native. My boss started convincing me not to look at the green pasture, but to continue working with him and complete the project. My boss didn’t wanted to accept and approve my paper. But I looking for greener pastures, I never listened to his advice. However I forced him for approval, he said to me “Any time if you wish to comeback and work with me you are most welcome and I will take you back”. I thought he was just making mockery, but he was serious that only after I rejoined I came to know.

The joining was delayed due to the delayed acceptance, the first day was very embarrassing in the new office, I was on time at the company gates at 9:00 and no staff to welcome or to greet. I sat in the visitors longue as if I am an Visitor. I couldn’t differentiate between employees visitors. I was taken to my department at 11:00, till then I was just observing each and every person entering the office. I meet my boss after 15 days of joining. No work for 15 days, no direction. One month completed, I was not given any responsibility, nor role clarity. It is like studying Engineering and standing near the Engine and observing without knowing the capacity and its use.

I felt annoyed on my decision and not hearing to the advice of my boss & family members before separating. I just remembered my ex-boss, and that evening I called my boss and expressed what I felt, he laughed and asked “ do you want to rejoin “ don’t worry I will take you back.

Thank god! there was a policy for re-entry

Now my boss is transferred and relocated. I opted for transfer and joined an new company, but I learnt many things in that short span from my boss.

I am thankful to him for giving an free hand to do what I think did the best and also most of them he was an good mentor. I express my gratitude for his effort on convincing the management to reinduct me into his team and his trust on my ability.

Bottom line

· A good reputation and good relationship is more important.

· Good work and good skills are only the bread & butter in life which can help us earn a living.

· Trust is necessary in many venues as a means to survival on a day to day basis
