It was evening and chilling cold outside. I was listening to George Michelle track - “Kindness in your eyes – Jesus to a Child”on my mobile and was in my own world. I saw an ATM centre and pushed the doors to enter the ATM centre. I heard the guard yelling at me giving a staring look. I went inside withdrew the money from ATM. I just went near the security guard and said, I need some urgent money and hence I could not see someone was already inside.
Keep my hands on his shoulder, I said sorry I didn’t peep in to see anybody is there or not. .
He shared the reason why he is more cautious. He narrated the incident of fight that happened previous day.
This was enough to get a personal touch. I just enqiring about his age, where he stayed and how long is he working. I could make out that he was a senior citizen and he confirmed that. He started narrating his own life story about his family, the work place he was in. The ups and downs that he has faced and overcome. The life he is leading due to his sons & daughter in-laws behaviours.
He eyes were shining when he started briefing how his daughter comes to see him and takes care of her, even though he she is married. I felt petty about the incidents and the life that the senior citizen his undergoing. Although I could not help him, but I can see an relief in his eyes, when I had a patient listening. I could really experience the feel good factor.
This incident highlighted the feel of senior citizens.
If we observe the ATMs being guarded, It is done through some outsourcing agencies employing senior citizens.
May be at the age of feeling their own childhood through playing with their grand children’s, at this age still they work. Work to earn or earn to spend time. Bottom-line:
Lord Bhuddha has to invent a whole new religion to escape his wife. That’s how difficult it is!
