I have always wondered. What is the difference between Sachin Tendulkar and other cricket players, for that matter why people go gaga over AR Rahman compared to other music directors. What differentiated Narayana Murthy, APJ Abdul Kalam or Saina Nehwal from thousand others similar to them.
The answer lies in the word Passion. All these people had a passsion to excel in their chosen profession. That passion drove them to put extra effort, that passion drove them to try the untried methods in their profession, that passion made them take risks. They were satisfied only with the best in their profession. They were people for whom the word " it's fine" was not ok. They were people for whom winning was more important than just participating.
So it is clear that if you have to win , you need to be passionate about what you are doing. You need to love your profession. Hence it is very important that you understand your interests and chose a profession accordingly. It is also important that parents understand their wards interest and help them chose a profession in which they can excel. There is no point following herd mentality. What works for one cannot work for others. If you follow others you will end up an average performer in the field. For e.g we have lakhs of engineers passing out every year out of which hardly 10-15% have any real passion for it. Rest of the students are there because their parents asked them to study engineering or their friends are studying engineering. Just like shown in the movie 3 idiots if you study something in which you have no interest you will struggle to complete it and you will not reach your true potential.
Hence try to understand your strengths , your interests and above all your passion. This will help you to reach the heights of glory just like the legends mentioned above.
