When you meet an stranger, it is easily break the barrier by making eye contact and a smile. If the other party responds to this, we initially say “hello” and introduce ourselves. But in a large gathering or crowd, there different tested methods available to break the ice. Some techniques are very simple, where in one is asked to introduced himself / herself to the audience. In some places the name plates are placed in front of the table, so that other can easily remember the name. Sometimes the person sitting next is asked to introduce the other, so that they get familiar. Yesterday when I was attending one talk session, suddenly I remembered my first training program and its precedence. The auditorium was occupied with 30 participants sitting and chatting comfortably to hear the inspirational quotes on the way we lead the life. Many a times, after the section we feel total charged up with positive vibes created through these talk shows. However it’s very sad, as once out of the room its normal tendency that we are back into our day to day activities and forget the positiveness.
The speaker introduced himself to the gathered audience with brief sharing his expectations from the gathered audience. To make it more comfortable and the participants know each other, he requested each to introduce themselves and to include the simple answer to the question “If you have to spend one day with comfort, which place will you select”. I remember, when I was asked the same question at my first training in the corporate world. My response was to sit and watch the waves, sipping bear with my friends laughing & giggling, with lot of good music and eatables.
The gathered participants had a mix of 80% married and their answers were really amazing. Be it a bachelor or married, if given a chance to spend a day – many wish to go to some exotic places and have fun. Some would love to sit next to beach with wine, women and have fun !!
I was amazed when I heard a response saying “I would prefer to spend with my loved ones at home”. All eyes started looking at this person, many might have felt that he is “Mad”. After the session, I just went near him, and tried to understand what he really meant by it. He is alone, dedicated his life to poor and he visits his mother often and he feels happy !
Bottom-Line
In many houses we find display “Lord bless our home” pasted near the doors or at the entrance. The obvious thought that the gentle man was emphasising was “there is no other better place for fun and to spend other then HOME. Usually a kids knows the time his parents are back and will be awaiting so that it can spend the time and have fun. An old mother would be sitting on the steps of her house, awaiting for her grown up children to be back and speak to her.
How beautiful it would be if our home will be a dwelling place for fun & celebrations.
