Encounter with the Veyron

By: Toothless | Posted Jul 06, 2012 | General | 512 Views

Ever since I saw a ferrari for the first time - in a trump card, I fell in love with it, needless to say I cheered for Ferrari while watchin F1 though the Schumacher days and I never missed any Top Gear episode on Ferraris. Sticking to the Ferrari fan tradition - I love the Testarossa better than the Ferrari GTO or even Enzo for that matter.

However there was a car which did have a special palce in my heart - The Bugatti Veyron. I had just completed my engineering and my buddy and I used to browse the internet on dial up speeds to check for the fastest cars and bikes out there - I was following the top speeds set by the Lamborghini diablo coati and Corvette sledge hammer and ofcourse the Mclaren F1. Somewhere between 2004-2005 I saw for the first time the name of Bugatti Veyron top the charts on supercars.net and then there were the stories about the veyron on automobile magazines followed by the most famous episodes of Top Gear where Jeremy on a Veyron raced James and Richard on an airplane, James proving that the Veyron could actually hit 253.8mph and ofcourse the famous episode where Richard races the Veyron against the Eurofighter. All this was very good at making the Veyron a genuine milestone in the auto industry, a kind of experiment that may never even be tried in the future.

The year was 2010 and I had been living in St Louis USA for a few years, I was a regular visitor to the annual auto show, I would be very impatient in these shows till I was satisfied that I had seen all the visiting Ferraris. But 2010 was different, something bigger was coming to the show, yes the Veyron was being brought and ofcourse I went. I was in a long line which skirted along some corvettes and mustangs and other cars untill it went into an enclosure walled by curtains. My friend and I tried to peek in as we reached close tot he curtain and got a glimpse of an Aston Martin DB7. The time came, the wait finally ended and we - a party of three - me, my wife and my friend were allowed to enter, there were about 7 - 8 exotic cars forming a semi circle which included Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lotus and Rolls Royce with the Veyron at the center on an elevated circular platform. I couln't take my eyes of it. For the first time I didnt care about the Ferraris. The Veyron is not just fast and high tech but also one of the most beautiful cars, the only other car I can call prettier would be the Jaguar e- type.

It was not very tall or even very long for that matter, howevere the tires were massive, so was the intake at the front and the cannonish exhaust ( there are a few hidden exhausts on the veyron too). The interior looked lavish and exterior was a blue - black tone. Just everything looked perfect and in harmony. Everything from the lights to the wind shield to the doors looked just perfectly sculpted. Being the 1000hp monster that it was on the inside , by looks it was humble and sophisticated.

Now that I had satisfied myself it was time to take pictures and move on to let others in.
