The Dirty PictureMany people are saying that Dirty Picture is vulgar, have some double-meaning dialogues, Vidya has crossed all the boundaries, Ekta has stooped down too low etc.
Is the film really cheap? No, it has been faithful to subject SILK. You can't expect only good lines from SILK. There would be hard hitting lines including double meaning lines from her, it's part of her personality.
Does Vidya look vulgar? If you have seen Silk Smitha's videos, you may not even ask this question.
Does this movie sell Sex? Is it sleazy? No. On the contrary, movie depicts fall of Silk. It explores darker side of fame, lust, greed and addiction. Mumbai is full of wannabes. This movie shows them the other side of glamour industry.
Then what is "a cheap film"?
Any film which doesn't remain faithful to subject, their target-audience is cheap. Delhi Belly is not cheap, because it was supposed to be that way. If you don't like such themes, simply stay away. Makers announced everywhere about what to expect.
There are some films that were advertised as Family entertainer, got away with U/A certificate and had plenty of non-veg comedy. One movie I remember is Neal n Nikki. That was definitely cheap. Ra.one was advertised as family entertainer Rajeev_Vermacially for kids. It has some cheap humor. I do have problem with that because kids were the target audience.
Filmmakers wants to put such elements but they're afraid of 'A' certificate because of fear of loosing family audience. Please identify your market, be faithful to your subject and deliver. It's Simple!!
then there is Don2
When ZNMD became hit, I saw many youth saying, "this is how one should live. Do whatever you want to do, don't think about tomorrow, have all the fun while it lasts etc." The movie was deeper than this. The movie was about fighting your inner daemons. Viewers will take the message as per their wish, most of the time the easiest way.
@Fenil_Seta has given title "Celebration of Lust" to his Dirty Picture's review. I would say it's about both sides of Lust. Lust can be physical, for money, fame, power etc. Dirty Picture has done great job by showing the other side of the coin when this country is full of wannabes. Nothing is wrong in chasing dreams but be careful about your choices and after-effects.
Whenever I watch Don2 Promo, I think why Farhan/Sharukh are glamorizing an antisocial element. Don is a lustful character, does all the wrong things without any justification. Even worse, makers show it in a glorified way. If Don will be victorious in the end, can get away with all the wrong doings; what impression will be created on his fans. I concern more because Shahrukh has massive fan-following.
I hope Farhan shows both sides of being Don but that is unlikely. They may want to come up with Don3. If Don2 would be a balanced movie like Dirty Picture,I would be the happiest person.
