While the priest was reading the scripture, the word that caught my attention during the service in a local " home for the aged", was “betrayal”. The dictionary meaning of the words are To deliver into the hands of an enemy in violation of a trust or allegiance, To be false or disloyal, To divulge in a breach of confidence. As I watched each old helpless aged men and women at the service, I could only think and reflect on the only word “betrayal”. It is said ““If you cannot predict the betrayal from the ones that you love and trust the most, then you are living in a fool's paradise.” I felt the above quote is so true.
I met one of the old women, when my kid went around and played with her. I could feel the emotions and missing affections from her face, with controlled laughs and hiding sadness. I was surprised to know that she had 8 children and 18 grand children and still healthy and fit just to be in a old age home. Wasn’t she been betrayed ? This has become a common phenomenon in the world, where in the young do not wish to care and shower the affection when the parents become old. Today the level of patience is missing and we do not bother that the old cannot change their habits and we need to be accommodative.
Gone are the old days, when the word uttered was taken in good faith and trust. Today the words coming out of our mouth is nothing but a denial latter, just to ensure that we made some profit. Is it not betrayal.
Bottom-line
Today we live in a society in a denial and betrayal as the pillars to progress. We go every step to ensure that we can be comfortable and betray the trust and respect that others have kept on us. I can only feel what an old aged mother could feel, when her sons doesn’t spend time with her !! I can only think how fantastic the world would have been if women can understand women, and the multinational company Gillette India could have spend the money they advertise inviting soldiers, could have spent on social cause and had a purpose. Isnt Gillette betraying the real consumer of their product ??
