Question....

Hi friends!!

This is my first DP i.e a real DP in which I am writing my thoughts! Up till now I had posted email forwards!!

I was just thinking about our great Indian culture. Be it a love marriage or a arranged marriage, the rules for women are set and rigid. Be it the most sophisticated family or a orthodox family. Among those hundreds of rules, I would like to point out only one here.

Recently, one of my friend’s (girl) parents were going through a bad phase in life. They are old and were continuously under stress, they didn’t have anyone to look upon (she being the only daughter). Of course, she and her husband visited them, but only a visit or two was not enough at all! Plus, her parents had to instead look after the couple (another Indian culture) for the time they were there! She is also facing clashes here with her in-laws. In simple words, she and her in-laws are not compatible. Can she just ask her husband to live in a separate home on the basis that even her parents are staying by their own! Does she have this liberty OR will anyone take this step of hers as a logical thinking? In such a modern and advanced urban life, will her husband even think about it as an option to keep her and himself sane??? In our culture when the husband has to look after his old parents because it’s a culture, what when her parents needed her? What are the feelings she must be going through when her husband forces her to stay with the in-laws? She never insists that her parents stay with them. But when there are differences between her and the in-laws, is it right to suggest OR insist on their individual standpoint? The in-laws can have as much financial support from the couple as before. At least the relationship between her and her husband will not sour!!

Why does the wife has to leave her parents, in how much ever stress or problems they are living? AND Why does the husband has to look after his parents even if they are (in some way or other) creating a rift between husband and wife???

I hope I was able to put my thoughts into words (will know after the comments come in). I would like to know all MSian’s opinion about the question in subject!!
